Without information, they say one is deformed. Knowledge gotten from information is so important that it can be said to responsible for the difference between an Educated Man and an Illiterate. We all value information and as a result we are always willing to pay sometimes heavily for them. We spend a greater part of our youth-life going to school, spending huge amount of our scare resources buying books as well as other materials geared towards informing and reforming us.
In today’s information age, the internet is the most valuable means of sharing; buying and selling information easily across the globe, there is no other known means that comes close to the potential of the internet in this regard. Internet marketers know this and had since grasped hold of this wonderful opportunity. They sell almost all types of information on the Net, from “How to make Money” – “How to kill yourself legally”, etc, for various amount of money. In advanced countries, buyers pay for such information right from the comfort of their houses, sometimes in front of their computer, using advanced payment methods like Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and PayPal etc.
In third world countries like Nigeria, the reverse is the case, here, internet marketers majority of whom are charlatans and fraudsters ask their clients to go to a Bank and pay the desired amount into an account obviously owned by the marketer. The problems with this mode of payment are numerous. In almost all Nigerian banks, it is not easy to pay-in or withdraw money from an Account. Withdrawal is a little bit easier now because of the newly installed ATM machines in almost all banks across the nation. But Paying-In is another story altogether.
The queue of those waiting to lodge in money can be quite discouraging. At this stage, a potential buyer can start to wonder if this waiting will be worth his while, he is not even sure of what he is paying for and now he or she will have to wait for close to an hour or more in some cases when a particular bank has problem with their Network, to pay money into someone he does not really know; Bank Account. The amount in question is not the issue but the “Time” been wasted and the possibility of being “Scammed”. If the marketer refuses to send the desired information to the buyer as agreed and at the stipulated time, what can the depositor do?
Also, the information may not be as valuable as they claim, sometimes, what is been sold was also gotten from the Internet easily and cheaply. All the so call Marketer did was to repackage and re-brand the Information, nothing more. A little bit of discretion is needed.
